RACE DAY INFO FOR #30719!
Here we are, one week until Patriots Day. Long runs are done, plane ticket is booked, weather report looks...(forget it, I am NOT going to jinx it). I am ready to run this Boston Marathon! I want to take a moment to sincerely thank you, each and every one of you. I really and truly could not have made this journey alone, and I am honored to run for you.
If you plan to be along the marathon route, please let me know where, so I can look for you! You can look for me on the course too. I will be wearing a red Team Eye and Ear singlet (to match my ponytail), and my blue and yellow Boston Marathon shorts. I promise to post an updated picture to Facebook just before I head to the starting line.
For those of you who want to track me on April 18th, I have some information on how you can do that. I am bib # 30719, and I start at 11:15 am (EDT). I plan to run between 10:30 - 11:00 minute miles (about a minute faster than last year).
You can download the BAA Marathon app from the itunes store here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/baa-marathon/id632231181?mt=8. If you downloaded the app last year, you will need to update it.
You can get text updates by texting RUNNER to 234567. You will then receive an sms text response with instructions on how to submit my bib number.
You can watch the race live online here: http://watchlive.baa.org or
http://universalsports.com or http://boston.cbslocal.com
If you would like to post or read my wall on race day, please friend me on Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/amy.spelta
If you use live tracking on mapmyrun, I plan to be using that app on Marathon Monday, so please add me to your connections.
On behalf of Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Team Eye and Ear, the Maddens (my mom and her siblings), my brother Gino – and from the bottom of my heart – THANK YOU! Thank you for everything you have done; it continues to help me #RunBold!
I am so excited to be part of Team Eye and Ear for 2016 Boston Marathon® on Monday, April 18th, Patriot’s Day. Last year was such an amazing experience for all my supporters, and I am honored to represent you all again this year.
As you may aleady know, Mass Eye and Ear has been THE most significant institute in our family’s fight against glaucoma. But what I came to learn last year, is that so many of my friends and their families have been affected by glaucoma as well.
The way I came to receive the invitation to join Team Eye and Ear is through my mother, Kathy Spelta. For years she and her siblings (my aunts and uncle) have been participating in a genetic study of glaucoma, which is a leading cause of blindness and vision loss worldwide, at Mass. Eye and Ear. During her treatments for glaucoma, my mom would tell her medical team all about her family, including especially me. This year, her medical team remembered that I was a long-distance runner, and they offered me a spot on their team of 50 dedicated runners who are raising money to advance the truly inspiring work of Massachusetts Eye and Ear. Since its inception in 2006, Team Eye and Ear has raised more than $3 million to support the hospital’s exceptional clinical care and ground-breaking research. I could not be more excited to join this elite team and to help advance such innovative work that not only directly benefits my family, but also gives hope to people around the world who afflicted with glaucoma.
Our team fundraising goal is $500,000 and I have committed to a personal goal of raising at least $10,000. I hope you join me in supporting Mass. Eye and Ear by making a gift today. Donations are fully tax deductible.
Over the next 5 months I will be sharing my journey with you via crowdrise.com, Facebook and email.
Thank you for your generous support!
p.s. If your company participates in a matching gift program, please consider applying to have your gift to Mass. Eye and Ear matched.
