Why I'm Running:
I always found running to be very enjoyable and relaxing as well. It’s “me” time; the time and space I need to let go of any trivial troubles and coax out my most inner thoughts and feelings. I mull them over as the wind breezes past me, and I surprise myself with how much I still learn about myself. It’s a way to both lose myself and find myself at the same time. Though running has just been a sport or an outlet for me, I have never had the chance to turn my hobby into something more. There has always been a desire within me to use a talent of mine in order to do something meaningful, as personal gain and satisfaction only goes so deep. Being the runner that I am, I have always had the dream of running the Boston Marathon, and what better way to achieve this goal than to run for a charity.
I will be running with Team Eye & Ear from the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston, one of the most respected hospitals in the nation for their specialized care and ranked #1 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. Mass. Eye and Ear clinicians and scientists are driven by a mission to find cures for blindness, deafness and diseases of the head and neck. Each year almost 300,000 people - adults and children - from more than 80 countries seek care at Mass. Eye and Ear and more than 20,000 of them undergo life-changing surgery. The hospital is home to the world's largest vision and hearing research centers, offering hope and healing to patients everywhere through discovery and innovation. As a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital, Mass. Eye and Ear trains future medical leaders in ophthalmology and otolaryngology through their highly competitive residency and fellowship programs.
Though I won’t be able to run past the familiar landmark of the Mass. Eye and Ear Infirmary on my way into the city on the marathon route, I hope to keep it in my mind as I run for a cause so much larger than myself. Running with Team Eye and Ear is an honor in my first marathon, the one race I have always wanted to run, and in the city I have had the privilege to call home. With your help, I can reach my fundraising goal of $12,000!
EVERY. DONATION. MATTERS.
No matter how small! If you can give anything at all to this wonderful cause, please consider donating.
Can you make a donation? Great! Does your company have a matching gift benefit? If so, you can double or even triple your contribution!
Here's How you Find Out:
Be sure that your company matches gifts to health care institutions and specifically to Mass. Eye and Ear. If those qualifications are met, the company will mail a matching gift in directly.
Here's How you Do it in 3 Simple Steps:
1) After a donation has been made, request a Matching Form from your company's HR Department.
2) Complete and submit the form to Mass. Eye and Ear.
3) Mass. Eye and Ear will verify the completed form and return it to the company. Once the contribution and form has been verified by Mass. Eye and Ear, the matching gift amount will be added towards the fundraising total!
Double your impact! Ask your company if they will match your donation to this great cause.
