BENEFITING: Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary
ORGANIZER: Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary
EVENT: 2016 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 18, 2016
On April 18, 2016 I am running my third Boston Marathon specifically to support Dr. Chris Hartnick who is the Director of the Pediatric Otolaryngology Department at Mass Eye and Ear in Boston. I ran the Boston Marathon in 2013 with Dr. Hartnick and the entire Mass. Eye and Ear team, but sadly I did not cross the finish line, as I was stopped at Mass Ave, just one block before I would turn onto Hereford Street and approach Boylston Street for the finish. I will never forget the confusion, horror and despair to eventually realize that Boston had been attacked by terrorists and that our beautiful city would never be the same.
This fall Dr. Hartnick asked me to run Boston in April and I immediately said YES! Dr. Hartnick cared for our daughter Maeve when she was sick several years ago. Maeve saw so many doctors who attempted to diagnose her mysterious symptoms and thankfully we were referred to Dr. Hartnick who discovered after doing an MRI that Maeve had a Chiari Malformation. I will forever be indebted to Dr.Hartnick and how he took care of Maeve, and all of us, as we navigated having a child who needed immediate neurosurgery.
The money I raise will be given specifically to support Dr. Hartnick’s Pediatric airway research and support collaborative Pediatric airway surgery missions that treat children all over the world.
It was a privilege to run with Team Eye and Ear in 2013. I am so excited to do it again and cross the finish line, perhaps a little slower this year, but finish none the less.
Please help me reach my goal of raising $10,000 by donating on this page to help Dr. Hartnick continue to tirelessly treat children here in Boston and all of the world. If you prefer to mail a check, please make it payable to “Foundation of Mass. Eye and Ear” and mail to my attention at 74 Waits Landing Road, Falmouth, ME 04105.
Dr. Hartnick and many other runners from the 2013 marathon will be back at it again this year. I am humbled to run Boston on April 18. It is amazing to run a marathon, but to run for Team Eye and Ear is honestly so inspiring and is what gets me motivated to train and persevere despite the weather, pain, and fear of not finishing 26.2.
Thank you for helping me cross the finish on April 18, 2016.
With so much gratitude,
