EVENT: 2017 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 17, 2017
I am excited and honored to be doing it again: I am running my fourth straight Boston Marathon, once again to support the research at Mass. Eye and Ear that is leading to life-changing cures and new treatments for blinding eye diseases.
Thanks to the incredibly generous support of so many of you, my marathon runs have raised almost $100,000 for eye research at Mass Eye and Ear over the past three years.
Last year was special for me because my daughters Heather and Julia joined me on Team Eye and Ear. They trained hard and successfully ran the 26.2 miles, and worked hard to contribute to our team fundraising success.
This institution is near and dear to our family, with the relationship dating back to the 1960's when my Ankeny grandparents first came to Boston for sight-saving retina surgeries by an innovative young surgeon named Dr. Charles Schepens. The fondness for and gratitude to Dr. Schepens led to many years of service and support for Schepens Eye Research Institute, and now Mass Eye and Ear. My father also had surgery by Dr. Schepens to repair retinal detachments, and I am proud that he is still active on the Board at MEEI. I am honored to serve as a trustee myself.
This is an exciting time right now at Mass Eye and Ear, as the Bold Science. Life Changing Cures Campaign moves forward. They promise that every child will see and hear throughout his/her lifetime. I am honored to run to make the research for these life-changing cures possible, but again I need your help in reaching my fund-raising goal of $20,000.
Thank you all for your tremendous support, as philanthropy is so essential to this mission!
PLEASE JOIN ME IN SUPPORTING THE WORK AT MASS EYE AND EAR BY DONATING TODAY.
Every mile we run and every dollar we raise takes us closer to finding cures for blinding eye disease. Together we can MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
