BENEFITING: FamilyAid Boston
ORGANIZER: FamilyAid Boston
EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2013
My running career is just getting started, but I am excited to be participating in the 2013 Boston Marathon! I completed a Spartan Beast race in Killington, Vermont in September 2012 which was 13.5 grueling miles of running, climbing, crawling, and traversing up and down the ski mountain while completing some 30 obstacles along the way. I have started training for the marathon and building up my distances over time. My children attend a marathon party every year on Commonwealth Avenue in Newton along the race route. I am looking forward to seeing their smiling faces during the race to get me through it!
I am running in support of FamilyAidBoston (formerly Travelers Aid Family Services) a social service agency that works to prevent families from becoming homeless and to help those who are already homeless obtain permanent housing.
I have been very active in supporting charitable causes for a number of years through my adult life - particularly on the housing front. I am a multi-year co-chair of the Annual REFA Charitable Golf Outing which benefits Project Hope and Homestart, I also raised money for Homestart by participating in their I-Cycle outdoor spinning fundraiser in February 2012. I am also a regular supporter of Boston Center for Independent Living (BCIL) in memory of a friend's son who contributed regularly to this organization, and Autism Speaks in support of a friend and former co-worker who has a son with Autism.
I am very happy to help support FamilyAid Boston with my fundraising efforts. As a father of four, I appreciate the work that the agency does to suport families in need and hope that I can contribute to helping the program continue.
