Alright! You made it here, so I know you are ready to donate!
Take a deep breath and break out the wallet. I doubled my donation from last year – don’t be afraid, your credit card will forgive you!
This will be my second Boston Marathon in as many years, and all the support from friends and colleagues REALLY keeps me going.
FamilyAid Boston is a great cause. I have been involved with the agency for over seven years, and every dollar raised helps the staff and social workers provide the services and assistance that so many homeless and at-risk families and children need. And $10,000 will make a big impact.
I appreciate everyone's support. So please dig deep, and donate generously to FamilyAid Boston.
Thanks to all. Kip
FamilyAid Boston (formerly Travelers Aid Family Services) is a social service agency that works to prevent families from becoming homeless and to help those who are already homeless obtain permanent housing.
Our case managers also help families obtain employment as well as teach them the skills that will help them remain in permanent housing after they have left our care. Using a comprehensive case-management approach, we strive to ensure that all families in Boston have homes.
The Greater Boston area is one of the most expensive places to live in the country. Families must earn no more than 115% of the federal poverty level ($26,508 for a family of 4) to access state-run shelter programs, yet it costs nearly three times that amount to support a family of 4 in this area.
Due in large part to these conditions, families are the fastest growing portion of the homeless population. FamilyAid Boston offers:
- Emergency shelter and prevention services for families facing immediate eviction or in need of a short-term place to stay;
- Transitional housing for families who need to get back on their feet;
- Support services to ensure that families who get into permanent housing are able to remain there; and
- Affordable, permanent housing for families who are stable but still need an affordable rent.
In the last year, FamilyAid Boston helped 772 homeless and at-risk families, including 927 parents and 1,698 children.
For the last two years, FamilyAid Boston has partnered with the John Hancock Non-Profit Marathon Program. Our marathon teams have raised more than $45,000 to help support Boston's homeless and at-risk families.
