Team Ferini is taking part in the Lupus LA 5K on February 13th. We will be running and walking to raise funds and awareness for Lupus. There are 1.5 million Americans living with Lupus, for which there is still no cure. Please help us to fight the battle by donating to Lupus LA.
I have been on a 13-year incredible health journey. After seeing countless Doctors, all of whom were unable to diagnose my symptoms. It was by the grace of God, I was referred to Dr Wallace, who diagnosed me three years ago with Lupus. I actually felt relief to finally have an answer. This was short lived, once I fully understood what the diagnosis of “Lupus” meant. This disease has come with many challenges for me. I continue to battle the daily fatigue and pain, as well as, last January I was diagnosed with CNS Vasculitis, lupus had gone to my brain. Two weeks after being diagnosed, on February 14th, I entered Cedars Sinai Hospital to begin a three-month Chemotherapy/Steroid infusion regimen. Every other Monday my husband Rob or my daughter, Alex would drive me the three hours to the infusion center at Dr. Wallace's office. I sometimes had two different chemotherapy drugs plus the steroids; needless to say it was a physically and emotionally trying experience.
This past year has taught me so much, the judgment, lack of confidence, and self-criticism had changed, suddenly it didn’t matter any more. I became confident, strong and determined to fight this battle. Dr. Wallace and his staff have been incredible. Their concern, support, awareness and determination are amazing. After going through treatment I still was having symptoms. Dr. Wallace suggested the Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber. We left his office that day thinking this sounds crazy. But I listened and did it. What a year this has been I thank God, my husband, family and friends for their tears, love, laughter and prayers. I would not be where I am today without them.
Lupus can take your body and your mind but it can’t take your spirit or your hope. Please donate today.
