NYRR Youth Programs via Crowdrise
November 08, 2010
Team For Kids is at it again. We’re packing on the miles in the NYC Half Marathon to raise money for programs designed to end childhood obesity and related health issues.
Childhood obesity is now an epidemic that has effects so many children who are not getting the daily physical activity they need to lead healthy lives. More importantly, childhood obesity can lead to other health problems, such as diabetes and heart disease, which is why we’ve got to do something about this growing issue today.
The funds raised by Team for Kids in the NYC Half Marathon will help provide free or low-cost school- and community-center based health and fitness programs provided by NYRR to children who would otherwise have little to no access to regular physical activity.
Your support will make a direct difference in children lives by providing:
- Training for teachers, coaches, field managers, and coordinators. Most of these individuals volunteer their time to NYRR youth services.
- Incentives for children to encourage them to attend events and practices, demonstrate sportsmanship, and strive for fitness and personal milestones.
- Entry fees and transportation to races and related sporting events for the kids.
- Needed resources to establish programs in areas of greatest need.
One in three children born in the year 2000 or later is expected to develop type 2 diabetes in his or her lifetime. Team For Kids is out to change these numbers, but we need your help.
