ORGANIZER: NYRR Youth Programs
EVENT DATE: Nov 07, 2010
HOURS PLEDGED: 20
When you donate to or raise funds for NYRR youth services, kids benefit. Childhood obesity is now an epidemic and many children are not getting the daily physical activity they need to lead healthy lives. One in three children born in the year 2000 or later is expected to develop type 2 diabetes in his or her lifetime. Join Team for Kids today and help us work to end childhood obesity within a decade.
The funds raised by Team for Kids members support New York Road Runners youth services programs and make a direct difference in children lives by providing:
- Training for teachers, coaches, field managers, and coordinators, most of whom are volunteers
- Incentives for children to encourage them to maintain attendance, demonstrate sportsmanship, and strive for and achieve fitness and personal-achievement milestones
- Entry fees and transportation costs so participants in our programs can compete in races and attend running-related sporting events
- Resources to establish programs in areas of greatest need.
Team for Kids started with a small group of runners participating in one race. Now, thousands of team members are running and receiving donations from generous contributors worldwide. This powerful outreach directly affects the number of children who benefit from our programs.
By pledging funds to a Team for Kids runner or joining the cause as a fundraiser, YOU are an important part of the solution. Together, we can end childhood obesity within a decade and give more children the gift of running.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
Team for Kids is a committed group of adult runners from around the world who add meaning to their miles by raising funds on behalf of New York Road Runners youth services.
Funds raised by Team for Kids members allow NYRR to provide free or low-cost school- and community-center based health and fitness programs to children who would otherwise have little to no access to regular physical activity. Currently, our programs serve more than 100,000 children each year in more than 400 schools and community centers in New York City, nationally, and in the Cape Town region of South Africa.
