THE STORY:

I'm running the Boston Marathon 2014 to benefit the Framingham Education Foundation and I'm hoping for your support!

The Framingham Education Foundation is the only Framingham non- profit that supports educational pilot projects in all schools, pre-K through high school, in the Framingham Public School System. Framingham Education Foundation grants encourage and reward talented F.P.S. teachers and staff who are eager to develop unique and engaging approaches to delivering curriculum. FEF grants enable educators to create new classroom or school based educational initiatives with limited financial risk to the teacher, school or district.
The Framingham Education Foundation is an independent, community-based nonprofit founded in 1990 to provide strategic support to the schools of the Framingham Public School System. Created by a group of concerned citizens during an economic downturn, the Foundation ensures that, regardless of economic circumstances, teachers always have access to funds that allow them to develop and advance their teaching along with their students’ learning.

In addition to the above charity, I'm also running Boston for a couple of personal reasons. First, Diane has always volunteered to provide medical coverage at the finish line. Last year she witnessed the bombings and was one of the many who ran toward the blasts, helping those who were injured wherever she could. I'm so proud of her and what she did that day. Waiting for her to come home last year was one of the longest afternoons of my life. This year I plan to meet her at the finish line - there's no one I'd rather see first as I cross that line!
Second, running a marathon confirms that I'm in excellent health. A little more than four years ago, I suffered a brain hemorrhage while sitting on the beach on Cape Cod. After being flown to MGH, it was discovered that I had also had nine small ischemic strokes due to a hole in the atrial septum of my heart called a PFO. 13 months after diagnosing the PFO, an atrial septal closure device was used to close the hole, reducing my risk of another stroke. As my health improved, I began to take up running again and this past October I completed my first half marathon! On to Boston 2014 I go!

I'm currently in my 5th week of training for the marathon and having fun! If you'd like to be a part of my Boston Marathon 2014 experience, please think about donating here to the Framingham Education Foundation. I personally know teachers in the school district who have greatly benefited from this foundation. Any amount is very much appreciated and will go a long way toward me reaching my goal!!
