We rightly feel sympathy and obligation to assist the wounded servicemember but we should never forget those left behind when a servicemember makes the ultimate sacrifice for all of us. For many military families, the only life they know consists of military bases, military schools, commissaries, PXs, other military families and the bond and shared sacrifice of being in the military. Families and spouses of serviecemembers sacrifice a great deal even when the servicemember remains safe in the best of times. The sacrifice that occurs for military spouses when the servicemember dies can be devastating not due only to the loss of the servicemember but the loss of the life and community they have known for so many years.
The American Widow Project aims to ensure that this sense of community is not lost and focuses on supporting the military widow and assisting her to move forward with her life while honoring her fallen hero.
