Dear Family & Friends,
On March 18th I will be running the 2012 L.A. Marathon on behalf of the Fulfillment Fund – an amazing nonprofit that I have been connected to for several years.
As I have basically been in a state of “athletic hibernation” in recent years, the training has been quite a challenge to stay the least!
The Fulfillment Fund (www.fulfillment.org) is a college access organization that for over 30 years has provided underserved, low-income students in Los Angeles with the support they need to graduate high school, earn a college degree and become productive and successful members of the community. The Fulfillment Fund offers a variety of services including:
- classroom instruction
- college counseling
- one-on-one mentoring
- college scholarships
- internship services
The Fulfillment Fund truly does transform the lives of the students they serve. Whereas the overall high school graduation rate among LAUSD (Los Angeles Unified School District) students is only 55 percent, Fulfillment Fund students graduate high school at a rate of more than 91 percent, and of those who graduate, 93 percent go on to college.
In 2009 I became a founding member of the Fulfillment Fund’s Leadership Council, a young professionals group that supports the Fund’s mission through advocacy, service and fundraising. I currently serve on the Executive Committee and I am a mentor to a student in the 9th grade. It's been fun and challenging and incredibly rewarding.
“Team Fulfillment Fund,” our marathon team, is made up of alumni, mentors, staff and other volunteers. (Click HERE to read about some of my teammates.) We are motivated and inspired by this organization and the students they serve to get involved to help raise awareness and much needed funds.
I thank you for your interest and ask you to please consider a contribution to this great organization.
