BENEFITING: The Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation
ORGANIZER: The Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation
EVENT: 2017 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 17, 2017
My name is Steve Conroy and the 2017 BAA Boston Marathon will hopefully be my 2nd marathon finish. I am hoping to beat my only marathon run time.
More importantly, as I begin to ramp up my winter training for the martahon, I am hoping to aggressively raise money for the team I am fortunate to be running for as a charity runner. I applied for and luckily made the roster for The Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation (Team GDMF)! As many local to the greater Boston area may know, Glen Doherty was an American US Navy SEAL working abroad in Benghazi, Libya, when he was killed in a terrorist attack September 11th of 2012. Glen died keeping Americans safe here at home, while he was far away from home, after a storied and dedicated career as a Navy SEAL. I am running to represent Glen and his legacy, and to raise money for his cause. Please see below to read more about the foundation, and to read about some of the beneficiaries of the GDMF scholarship.
A brief synopsis on The Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation & what it provides to heroes and their families of our country:
Our mission is to provide more funding for the GDMF scholarship program. To date we have awarded 20 scholarships for special operations soldiers, like Glen, and their families. For the first time in our existence we have had to turn candidates away. Please help us build our base and allow us to grant scholarships to every worthy individual that applies to the GDMF.
We have profiled 2 recent GDMF scholarship recipients here and other GDMF scholars can be found on our website: ·
Dennis Morgan - Navy SEAL, medic & sniper, just like Glen. Served on 2 platoons. Studied at Mesa College. Transferred to University of San Diego. Pursuing a career in medicine thanks to the GDMF. ·
Boyd Renner - Joined US Navy, 1988 & Served 27+ years. Navy SEAL with 10 tours in Afghanistan, 2 tours in Iraq. 2014 BA Saint Leo University. Pursuing a Masters in Project Management at Penn State University thanks to the GDMF.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my 2017 Boston Marathon endeavor, and if you donated (every little bit helps!) God bless and thank you!
