Firstly I would like to thank everyone who sponsored me in last year’s fundraising efforts for Golf Fights Cancer. Finishing the 2012 Boston Marathon was a highly rewarding endeavor and something that I was never sure that I could actually achieve until the last turn onto Boylston St. While that achievement gave me great personal satisfaction it was the fact that I managed to raise over 16 thousand dollars in donations that drove my decision to “run” again. Through Golf Fights Cancer the funds raised last year were dedicated to the Hole in the Wall, a group that provides a little refuge for children suffering from the rigors of both the treatment and the effects of cancer while residing in hospital. This year I have set a fundraising goal of 18k. While a large number and a difficult task, the dual goal of running and fundraising is no different to the dual task faced by researches and doctors whose objectives of treating and curing cancer require hard work and money. For that reason I once again ask all of my friends and colleagues to think about where and how they make their charitable donations and please consider once again or for the first time supporting me in this year fund raising campaign.
