I first started volunteering for Grassroot Hoyas when I was a rower at Georgetown. My teammate Tyler Spencer told me about his idea to use the model of Grassroot Soccer right here in DC to combat the spread of HIV. Georgetown athletes – with already packed schedules – would volunteer their time to go to middle schools and teach kids about HIV through sports and games. I was intrigued, and also skeptical. I certainly never dreamed our small band of volunteers would grow into The Grassroot Project over just a few short years. Now, with athletes from Georgetown, George Washington, Howard, and Maryland, it's exciting to see the impact and potential for change that this group has!
This will be my first half marathon, and my first time running anything close to 13 miles (although I've certainly erged it). I'm pumped to be helping Grassroots and to know the positive impact that every dollar will have on DC's youth. Support me and help Grassroots expand to do more than ever before!
