I've never run more than ten miles before, but this won't be the first thing I'll learn how to do on the fly for the sake of Grassroots.
I started The Grassroot Project four years ago as an athlete at Georgetown University. The organization (if you could have called it that back then) was originally a group of 40 of my teammates and friends who were shocked by the AIDS rate in DC. We created 8-week, interactive HIV/AIDS prevention programs for a handful of DC after-school students.
It's been awesome to witness what Grassroots has become. In just a couple of years, we've grown from 4 middle schools to 40, and from 40 volunteers to 400.
The upcoming year is going to be excting for us. We are expanding our staff and really laying the building blocks to scale up.
I couldn't be more pumped to run 13 miles for the athletes and students of DC - thanks for your support!
