BENEFITING: GRASSROOT SOCCER
ORGANIZER: GRASSROOT SOCCER
On November 19, 2000, I completed my first marathon in Philadelphia as a senior at Penn. On November 7, 2011, I am hoping to complete my TENTH marathon in the best city in the world, New York.
I am excited to celebrate the tenth thon by asking friends to donate TEN dollars to a very special organization, Grassroot Soccer.
I am not using this fundraising to gain entry, as I already have a guaranteed spot from my participation in New York Road Races and I promise not to hit you up again until Marathon #20 in 2022.
ABOUT GRASSROOT SOCCER (GRS):
GRS has reached over 400,000 youth with HIV prevention and life skills education, trained 2,500 Skillz coaches, and reached millions more through outreach. However, there is much more work to be done; each day more than 7,000 people die of AIDS, with more than half of new infections occurring amongst young people.
GRS sees a world mobilized through soccer to create an AIDS-free generation. The GRS mission is to educate, inspire and mobilize youth to stop the spread of HIV. By 2014, the GRS goal is to reach 1 million youth with life-saving education.
To achieve its mission, GRS continuously improves innovative HIV prevention and life-skills curriculum, share its program and concept effectively, and utilizes the popularity of soccer to increase impact. Each dollar is put to use in reaching the most at-risk youth in Africa with the best possible prevention education.
All donations are tax-dedutible.
