EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
Thanks for visiting my page!
It is for real! I'll be running my very first marathon, the Boston Marathon, next April and I have decided to dedicate the race to one of my favorite nonprofits, PFLAG. PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) promotes the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons, their families and friends through: support, to cope with an adverse society; education, to enlighten an ill-informed public; and advocacy, to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights.
You can support PFLAG with a donation to my page! I truly appreciate every pledge and gift that helps me. Every penny counts!
- a $10 gift/pledge = <50 cents per mile for 26.2 miles
- a $25 gift/pledge = <1 dollar per mile for 26.2 miles
- a $40 gift/pledge = <1 dollar per kilometer for 42 kilometers
- a $50 gift/pledge = <2 dollars per mile for 26.2 miles
- a $75 gift/pledge = <2 dollars per kilometer for 42 kilometers
- a $100 gift/pledge = <50 cents per mile for all the miles I’ve run this year as preparation
- More than $100? See the prizes for top donors!
If none of these options fit your budget, please just give what you can...it all makes a difference! I'll look forward to providing you with updates of my training. I'm also planning to host a Mexican party in Cambridge as a fundraiser (more on that later) as a preparation for the big day. You're all invited!
But wait...there is more. I will award my top three donors with their choice of either a home cooked dinner, a charcoal drawing, or a graphic design session!
Thank you so much for your support, the moral support is equally important, and for thinking of me while I train during the cold winters months in Boston and in the middle east for the big day on April 15, 2013!

Why? The Motivation
I am running for PFLAG becuase PFLAG is creating a society where people facing challenges similar or worse than the ones I faced don’t have to escape from their communities or countries to reach their dreams. PFLAG is creating a better world and I want to be part of building that better world.
What? The Task
Running my first marathon!
Five years ago, my roommate invited me to join a running group in downtown Seattle in order to experience the Pacific Northwest, but let's be sincere: the outdoors and exercising were not my friends. For example, instead of going to soccer practice during my elementary school days in Mexico, I managed to hide at the air-conditioned computer lab.
I wanted to start running on my own first. It was a wise decision as I actually vomited the first time I ran one mile non-stop at the gym. Weeks later, when I was confident I could run two miles, I showed up. I arrived seconds later after the group had started their route, so I just followed them. Without knowing the distance or how I was going to get back, I kept running. We ran 10K. I didn’t have a clue I could do that. I called my mom and she couldn’t believe it either. “You?” she said, perplexed.
Since the summer of 2008, I have been running regularly and had been able to complete two half-marathons, and two 200-mile relay races--but the task to train during the winter for my first marathon while I complete my MBA at MIT Sloan: it will be challenging.
