EVENT DATE: September 12-13, 2014
WHAT IS THE GREAT MARLIN RACE? The IGFA Great Marlin Race (IGMR) is a partnership between the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) and Stanford University that pairs recreational anglers with cutting-edge science to learn more about the basic biology of marlin and how they utilize the open ocean habitat.
This effort is aimed to improve our understanding of distribution, population
structure and biology of marlin while engaging anglers and the general public in the research process. By learning how these animals use the pelagic ecosystem, we are providing valuable information to the resource managers and policy makers responsible for ensuring their long‐term conservation.
The Dana Angling Club is excited to participate in the Great Marlin Race of 2014. As a non-profit organization, with your help,we are able to purchase and deploy a $4,500 pop‐up satellite archival tag (PSAT) necessary to track and research the behavioral and migratory patterns of Striped Marlin.
More information on The Great Marlin Race and how you can help:
On September 12-13, 2014, during the 33rd annual Master Angler Billfish Tournament (MABT), the Dana Angling Club, with its participating boat teams, will compete to catch and release marlin. If enough funds are raised, we will have the first-time ability to participate in the "Great Marlin Race" by deploying a satellite tag to learn more about this beautiful species of fish.
Together, our teams can make a difference and better understand how these beautiful animals behave and migrate which will ultimately help aid in the conservation efforts of these and other migratory fish.
