BENEFITING: HavenHouse St. Louis
ORGANIZER: HavenHouse St. Louis
EVENT: 2013 GO! For A Cause
EVENT DATE: Apr 07, 2013
I'm running a half marathon on April 7th, 2013. There. I said it. Yes, it's me Paula. I know. I know. Incredibly hard to believe but it's true. If you know me, you know that my body does not contain athletic bones. Don't know me? Need examples? Here we go ----> I was kicked out of P.E. in high school for refusing to participate. I believe I was asked to RUN. Mom - don't read this part. I skipped the volleyball portion of P.E. for six weeks. I hid in the bathroom.
In the past I've taken great pleasure it activities like sitting and eating. I also enjoy resting with an emphasis on lounging while consuming pizza. How can I say sedentary in a fancy way? Hmmm. Not sure. How about this: I dislike sweating and moving. Imagine my suprise when my friend and co-worker Lindsey informed me that we would be running a half marathon. That was it. She told me we were doing it and I said okay. I said 'okay' and then she handed me the training information. Ouch.
And here we are, just a few weeks a way from the big event! I'm incredibly excited to be part of Team HavenHouse. I'm thrilled that our organization was chosen as one of the GO! St. Louis charities. My position at HavenHouse (and my co-workers) has truly inspired me to hop (or run) onto another path. I find it easier to train and push myself when I think about the families that travel hundreds and sometimes thousands of miles to St. Louis for necessary medical care.
Running 13.1 miles may be tough but I will be running those miles for every unexpected hospital stay, surgeries that were supposed to be 2 hours but turned into 10, overnights in waiting rooms, sleeping on floors and in uncomfortable hospital chairs, the NOT sleeping at all, those long drives in cars and days in planes ... I'm running to support the families that so desperately need the services that HavenHouse provides.
Please help me reach my goal. I'm half way there. Every dollar is greatly appreciated and will support the hundreds of people that we serve each month.
Wish me luck!
P.S.- If you would like to be totally entertained, please come to GO! St. Louis and WATCH me run. Bring a camera. Better yet - bring a film crew. This could be better than any reality TV show.
