BENEFITING: Harvard College Marathon Challenge
ORGANIZER: Harvard College Marathon Challenge
EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
Dear Family and Friends,
Welcome to my fundraising page for the 2013 Boston Marathon! This will be my first ever marathon (!!!!) and I am excited to be a part of Harvard College Marathon Challenge (HCMC). Thank you for donating to this page and supporting the Phillips Brooks House Association (PBHA), a Harvard based charity that makes a big difference for Boston underprivileged youth.
I have always enjoyed running, but I had never really pursued the sport until March of 2012 when I started my year-long leave in Ghana. I had been reading a lot about health and wellness, and had decided to make lasting positive changes to my life. I became a vegetarian, and started running. It was fresh, and exciting, and I could seldom think of better ways to start my morning. I slowly began to fall in love with the rush of the wind against my skin and the rapid thumping of my heart whenever I'd put my fingers to my temple. I felt alive – in ways I had never before experienced.
In October 2012, I completed my first 10K in Nairobi. It was an incredible experience running in a massive crowd of equally excited people ( Kenyans! ). I could not stop smiling, even through my tiredness. And it was not just because of the confetti. Being in the midst of so much motivation was exhilarating; I was hooked. That day, I set my heart on finishing this year's Boston Marathon. It's been an interesting journey thus far. I have learned a lot about myself and grown tremendously in many aspects of my life. After all these months, the most valuable lesson I take away from this will be the remarkable strength of the human will. I know that the race next Monday shall not only test my physical preparedness, but also my discipline, tenacity, and most of all, my belief that the human spirit is indomitable.
I would like to invite you to join me in completing this journey. I chose to dedicate my training and my running to raising money for PBHA, and I would be very grateful if you could support my fundraising efforts by donating here. A tiny contribution would go a long way towards helping the remarkable work that volunteers from all over campus do on a daily basis. All donations to this page are tax deductible.
I leave you with a quote from Ayn Rand I have grown to love:
“The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me.”
I hope this speaks to you as much as it does to me. I also encourage you to consider embarking on this very exciting journey of running a marathon at least once in your lifetime.

Harvard College Marathon Challenge (HCMC) is an organized group of Harvard students, employees, and alums that raises money, through running, to benefit the health, education, and welfare of Boston-area youth and families. Your donation to HCMC will benefit the Phillips Brooks House Association (PBHA) Summer Urban Program (SUP). PBHA SUP delivers educational and enrichment programming to underserved youth throughout the Greater Boston area. Since its inception in 2005-06, HCMC runners have raised over $250,000 for causes such as PBHA SUP. Thanks for your generosity, no matter how large or how small!
