Our Team is full of people with inspiring, bittersweet stories. We and our families are excited to be raising money for the John Ritter Foundation.
Team Heartosaurus is a global network of individuals collectively driven to increase awareness of the many aspects of heart disease, and who embody a "live life to it's fullest" attitude. We are fighters, and pillars of strength. We are always looking for patients, doctors, family members and others who share our common bond, to join the team.
Team members compete in runs. triathlons, cycling, and marathons. Others simply sport the iconic jerseys as a sign of their belonging. You don't have to be an athlete to be on the team, you just need to be a Heartosaurus.
Heartosaurus: noun [heart-o-sau-rus] 1. An inspiring online reference for open heart surgery patients. 2. A heart patient with an inextinguishable desire not merely to survive, but to live life to its fullest. 3. A doctor, caregiver, or anyone who makes a profound difference to the cause.
The John Ritter Foundation was created in early October 2003, just weeks after John’s sudden death of an aortic dissection. The Foundation was formed by his widow, Amy Yasbeck, and their family for the purpose of receiving donations in honor of John’s life. The John Ritter Foundation is dedicated to promoting knowledge of aortic aneurysm and dissection through research and education. Its goal is to enlighten the general public, while creating an open exchange of information at the highest levels of cardiothoracic expertise. Our mission is to raise awareness of aortic disease, its detection, treatment, and genetic predisposition. Aortic dissection is a silent and often misunderstood killer that, along with related vascular diseases, is a leading cause of death for both men and women. The John Ritter Research Program in Aortic and Vascular Diseases (JRRP) is working hard to try and prevent premature deaths due to aortic dissection through identifying genes that predispose to the disease (a first step in identifying who is at risk), understanding why the disease occurs, and identifying new therapies to prevent aortic disease. In addition, the Program will work to increase awareness and educate both the public and emergency room personnel to the dangers of aortic dissection and promote life-saving reminders to help in early detection and surgical intervention. Through its research and educational efforts, the John Ritter Research Program strives to save lives that too often are lost unnecessarily.
Please help us support the John Ritter Foundation and allow dedicated staff to accelerate their research into the genetic causes of the diseases and discover new therapies to prevent premature deaths. Your gift will also help fund a national effort in raising public awareness for early testing and detection as well as emergency personnel around the country.
Click the DONATE button above. Any amount is appreciated and WILL make a real difference.
Even better, JOIN TEAM HEARTOSAURUS and help us fundraise. You don't have to run the Marathon to be on the Team. Anyone can help with the fundraising. Share your team member page with all of your friends and ask for their support. Let’s make this cause viral. It starts with YOU.
