With our mission comes a heart. A heart that beats and a heart that breaks for every innocent animal that finds itself in peril at our local Jefferson Parish Animal Shelters. With each precious life saved, that same heart rejoices. A dog's eyes are the windows to his heart and soul. They somehow communicate what cannot be spoken. All too often, a shelter dog’s eyes portray tales of previous betrayal, hardship, and solitude. Unfortunately, these misfortunes also equate to a lack of awareness and care in the form of the preventable heartworm disease. A view into the soulful eyes of a shelter dog with heartworms often captivates and reveals a perfectly tempered companion, undeservingly failed by mankind, yet still fortified by the virtue of hope. But the Jefferson SPCA feels that heartworm status does not make a dog less deserving of a second chance at a promising future. We have vowed to treat every heartworm positive dog adopted through the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter at no cost to the adoptive family. It is the gift of health and therefore, the gift of life.
Please support what keeps the heart of the Jefferson SPCA beating and consider joining our team to walk with us for the cause of heartworm awareness. Your generosity will aid in our continuance to treat heartworm positive dogs adopted from the shelters in Jefferson Parish. Together, united as one, we can successfully achieve our mission of saving lives.
