EVENT: ASICS LA Marathon 2013
EVENT DATE: Apr 06, 2013
Team Herman is back for a third year, and we are once again raising funds for the Hirshberg Foundation, in memory of our dear friend Herman C. Atienza.
** Update **
My sis, Minel, is embarking on her dream to finish the American River Endurance Run this year! It's a 50-mile trail race that starts in Sacramento, CA and ends in Auburn, CA. She's going to help fundraise for Team Herman until that event on April 6th, 2013. So if March is not a good month to donate, you still have a chance to have until April! :)
** /Update **
We lost herman on March 1st, 2011 -- a mere five months after we found out he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It did not take me long to search on the internet that pancreatic cancer was, as coined by Dr. Mehmet Oz, "the cancer which doctors fear the most." Raising awareness and funds for promoting the research of pancreatic cancer, for organizations such as the Hirshberg Foundation and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, helped ease the trauma of losing my good friend, my big brother, Herman.
While there was a recent "milestone" in terms of funding for Pancreatic Cancer research (President Obama recently signed the "Recalcitrant Cancer Research Act" into law), the numbers remain the same: the survival rate is only 6% and has been in the single digits for decades. Your support truly makes a difference in providing the funds for continued research and potential advances -- especially with better screening and early detection!
Thank you in advance for helping me keep Herman's memory alive! I would also appreciate your prayers for me as I embark on my 12th marathon on March 17, 2013. It will be the fourth time I'll be running the Los Angeles Marathon!
