I NEED YOUR HELP!!!!
As many of you have heard, I am planning to run the Boston Marathon- again on April 15, 2013 as a member of Team Hoyt. Two years ago, I ran the Boston Marathon alongside of them and have been forever changed. (Last year, I had intentions of joining them, however the death of a family member/warranted my family to welcome an unexpected addition to our family-which prevented me from participating last year). Prior to meeting the Hoyt’s, I like everyone else- I had been touched by their moving story --but actually meeting and running with them - it was different. My entire family was captivated by their genuine love, courage and strength and after that weekend, impressed upon our minds for the rest of eternity- is the only limits we perceive are self imposed.
For those of you unfamiliar with this foundation, Team Hoyt, evolved from an inspirational story of a father, Dick Hoyt, and his non-verbal disabled son, Rick; who after finishing their 1st 5k race proved that despite incredible obstacles - anyone can be an athlete. They continue to compete together (at age 70 & 50 respectively) in marathons and triathlons across the country. Team Hoyt strives to help those who are physically disabled become active members of the community. Join us in spreading Team Hoyt's message, "Yes You Can!" This incredible duo has even participated in Hamilton’s own “Melody Miles” raising money for our music department.
As an educator, summer program director, a cheerleading coach, Sunday school teacher and parent, I have dedicated my life to improving the lives of our future generation. I realize the limitations that disabled children face on a daily basis – the Hoyt Foundation is dedicated to leveling the playing field for all, much like me. The Hoyt foundation and I share an altruistic love for children and strive to surpass expectations - that is why I am compelled to run with them.
As a runner, I have committed to raise over $5000 to benefit the foundation. It is my hope that you will join me in my efforts to secure this amount. Any donation will be most graciously accepted, and no amount is too small.
Training for a marathon will be a challenge. But my challenge is nothing in comparison to the daily struggles that the physically disabled face every day, for the rest of their lives. Please join me in spirit by contributing. Whatever you can give will help—it all adds up. I really appreciate your support and will keep you posted on my progress.
TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!
Much love & appreciation,
Amy Schrader Blanchard
As a quick aside - many people have asked how I can find time to fundraise and train for a marathon - with four active children, a full time job, a home under construction, and taking more graduate classes. I always revert back to a conversation the Hoyts’ shared after their 1st 5k race over 30 years ago...when Rick said, “Dad, when we are racing I feel like everyone else..then I say "how can I not??"
