Thank you for viewing our Team Hoyt Crowdrise page. To briefly share our journey I would like to take a few minutes to share the story of Team CJ.
Hi I'm C.J and I am an athlete rider with Team Hoyt VB! I am 9 years old and I have Agensis Corpus Callosum. Even though I cannot talk with words you can tell by the smile of my face and the clapping of my hands how much joy riding with Team Hoyt VB brings me. I participated in the Wicked 10k in 2011. Then a year later I did the Wicked 10K again and I have since done every race possible. In February of 2013 I was paired up with my special angel pusher Amanda for the Virginia is for Lovers 14k. That race was so cold but Amanda pushed through it and brought me across the finish line. Amanda was also my angel pusher for my very first 1/2 marathon, The Shamrock! Since then Amanda and her husband Brian have teamed up with me to be "Team CJ!" Together we have completed many half marathons, the Marine Corps full marathon (26.2 miles), last March we ran a sub 2 hour 1/2 Marathon at Shamrock, and this April we did our first Triathlon! Together we have ran, biked, and swam over 200 miles of road races! I am lucky to have Amanda and Brian as my pushers. They travels very far to be able to push me and for that I am very thankful. We are excited to run the Rock-N- Roll 1/2 Marathon 2015.
It is because of the generous donations from people like yourselves that make it possible for Team Hoyt VB to continue fulfilling the dreams of rider athletes like myself. I hope you consider donating to this very worthy cause.
From Amanda and Brian-
I (Amanda) started running about a three and a half years ago. At my first Virginia Beach race, The Wicked 10K, I saw a group of Team Hoyt runners. It was SO windy that day, but every rider and runner had a huge smile on their face. I remember walking away with my husband and saying, "THAT is my new passion in life!" Knowing me so well, Brian knew this really meant it was "OUR" new passion in life!
We are both special education teachers and have been in the field for a combined over 30 years. We have always had a passion for inclusion and serving students with diverse abilities- that is not a typo- there are no "disabilities" here. In the past two years running has brought me (Amanda) a lot of joy and fitness. Team Hoyt has given me an opportunity to join both my passion and hobby.
At my first Team Hoyt race I (Amanda) met CJ. I really can't explain our connection, especially since CJ is mostly non-verbal, but we just understand each other. Being with him gives me a reason to want to run and not quit! I know by the way he claps and smiles that he is 100% investing in finishing the race with me. I think a lot of people are inspired by runners who push athletes, but honestly, I am most inspired by CJ!
Together we are CJ's legs for races, but he is OUR HEART!
Please support Team Hoyt Virginia Beach in this mission to continue serving rider athletes and promoting the Team Hoyt vision of inclusive athletics. Running for those who can't!
"Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever." 1 Cor. 9:24-25
