EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
Running the Boston Marathon is a challenge that I am thrilled to take on and feel as though I have been working toward for quite some time.
I started running in 2009 after my mother came down for a visit. Over dinner, she informed me and my husband that she took up running as a result of one of her latest doctors visits. Diagnosed with diabetes some time ago, she has been on insulin and other various medications, some of which were to counter the effects of each other. However, this doctors appointment was different because my mother had started running. Not only had she lost weight but her overall health had improved. As a result, she was taken off most of her medications and for the first time (in recent memory) I saw the sparkle come back into her eyes.
My mother encouraged my husband and I to register for a race and we have not stopped running since. I was inspired by my mothers journey and have discovered a way to keep myself healthy, as well. The Boston Marathon is a meaningful way that I can contribute to the IHP community.
I am raising money for the IHP Scholarship Fund, my goal is $5,000. Please take a moment and help support me and the IHP students.
