BENEFITING: The MGH Institute of Health Professions, Inc.
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
If you grow up in Boston, Marathon Monday is always a holiday you look forward to. In addition to getting the day off of school, for me, it also meant heading downtown with my dad and brothers to cheer on my amazing mom, a 10-time Boston finisher! I never thought I'd be in her shoes one day, preparing for that grueling 26.2 mile run from Hopkinton to Boylston Street. And honestly, I can't wait.
In addition to getting to cross this one off my bucket list, I also get to support my graduate school, the MGH Institute of Health Professions, which has provided me the education and experience to work in the profession that I love, speech-language pathology. During my studies at the IHP, my classmates and I worked in the in-house clinic, gaining experience providing speech and language therapy, and I also had the opportunity to work in our Aphasia Center, working with an adult population. These centers provide pro bono services to children, teenagers, and adults in the community who might not otherwise have access to therapy. The IHP also provides scholarships to make earning a masters degree more accessible to more students and keeps itself on the cutting edge of research in every field it houses. All-in-all, it was an amazing experience to study there for two years, and is a cause I want to support into the future.
My goal is to raise $5000 to support the Commuication Sciences and Disorders program at the IHP. If you would like to help support the CSD program, me, and get a tax exemption while you're at it, here's the place to do it!
A million thanks!
