BENEFITING: The MGH Institute of Health Professions, Inc.
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
First off I would like to thank all those that helped support me in my previous fund raising event where I completed the Nashville Marathon to help raise money for the Chris Norman Education Fund! With your amazing generosity, I was able to raise a total of $4,400 to help MGH Institute of Health Professions SLP student involvement in various educational activities!
However, it is now another year, and time for me to embark on the next, bigger, and better challenge to overcome. This year, I will be running the 2015 Boston Marathon as part of team MGH Institute of Health Professions to once again raise funding for the Chris Norman Educational Fund!
The primary purpose of the Chris Norman Educational Fund is to help students attend conferences, fund student research endeavors, and support other educational activities, especially for students interest in stuttering -- a condition that Chris not only overcame but which fueled his desire to help others as a speech-language pathologist. While attending MGH before graduating in 2007, my brother was given similar financial opportunities by being able to attend the American Speach-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) conference in New Orleans.
While attending MGH, my brother called Boston his home and loved every minute of his time there. He was also an avid runner and before his passing even completed his first marathon (Omaha). What better way to remember, celebrate, and honor my brother's life than to run through the great city of Boston, one of his favorite homes, while raising money to help those passionate in helping others overcoming stuttering, just like my brother.
By participating in this year’s Boston Marathon and I intend to raise $5,000 to help fund The Chris Norman Educational Fund! Similar to the Nashville Marathon, I will be matching all donations up to $1,000, with my company matching the donation as well.
If I raise a total of $10,000, I will also register and participate in the Seattle (my brother's next home where he worked as a SLP for elementary students) Rock n Roll Marathon on July 13th!
Finally, I will be training to beat my brother's marathon time of 3hrs20mins. If I do not beat this time during either marathon, an additional $500 will be donated to Education Fund.
Your contribution will be made to MGH Institute of Health Professions, a 501(c)3 organization. All contributions are tax deductible.
Whether it be dancing around, going for a run, having a glass (or two) of wine, or snacking on chips and salsa (or gummy bears) and reminiscing, please help me continue on the spirit, memory, and celebration of my brother! Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thank you for all the support and love!
