At Camp Interactive, children are introduced to technology and the environment by going on many expeditions year round where they use computers and programming languages (HTML) to build their own websites that document their experiences on these trips. During the school year, Camp Interactive is also home to an after school program that helps give kids the tools they need to succeed in their academic and personal growth endeavors. There seems to be one thing missing: something to get the kids active after school. Now, this vision can become a reality with Team Active, Camp Interactive’s new running initiative aimed at instilling a love for the sport of running and integrating technology into these kids’ lives. The goal is to help the kids create a healthy balance of technology and exercise in their lives to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
For this new program to take shape, we need support. This is where Camp Interactive’s marathon team comes in. The team will be comprised of ten runners who will be running in support of Camp Interactive and its amazing programs. Each member of the team will need to raise $5,000 for the cause, bringing the total to $50,000. Our goal for this project is to get corporations to match our efforts so that we raise a total of $100,000.
Team Active will be so much more than just a place where kids run once or twice a week. Due to the economic hardships that are present today, many kids are not offered good in-school or after-school athletic opportunities, Team Active will give these kids the support they need. Running is a great catalyst for building new friendships, running with a group of others is a bonding experience, everyone is running together and having fun doing it! Team Active hopefully will be a step in inspiring living a healthy lifestyle, a love for running, and an integration of technology in the lives of many New York City Kids.
