On March 18, 2012, Team JDRF will run in the New York City Half-Marathon to raise awareness for type 1 diabetes and collect donations to benefit JDRF.
JDRF is the leading global organization focused on type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Driven by passionate, grassroots volunteers connected to children, adolescents, and adults with this disease, JDRF is now the largest charitable supporter of T1D research. The goal of JDRF research is to improve the lives of all people affected by T1D by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing T1D.
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas. T1D strikes both children and adults at any age. It comes on suddenly, causes dependence on injected or pumped insulin for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications. JDRF has an unrelenting passion and commitment to find better treatments, and ultimately a cure, for people with this disease.
