On August 16th, 2011, when she was just 13 years old, Jen Starzec acquired a rare condition called Transverse Myelitis. In a matter of hours, Jen lost the ability to sit, walk, and to use either of her arms and hands. Her spinal cord was damaged her spinal cord from C1-T1. In addition to the loss of motor skills, Jen has suffered from other complications including osteoporosis, chronic pain, and chronic fatigue.
Jen will be at the TMA Walk-Run-N-Roll this year on September 20th in Downer's Grove, IL. The goal of this event is to raise awareness for Transverse Myelitis (TM), Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM), Optic Neuritis (ON), and Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO), as well as raise money to support the Transverse Myelitis Association (TMA). The TMA is an amazing organization that is helping with research, education, community outreach, advocacy, and support for these rare conditions.
