EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2013
Whenever I tell people I am running a marathon, inevitably the first words out of their mouths are "Why would you ever want to do that?!" The reason I try to tackle the marathon is because I want to do something grand to commemorate the life of my cousin Lucy. While I was growing up we moved around a lot and my brother and I would come back to Stoughton in the summer while my parents were getting things set for the next move and it was Lucy that would take care of us. She was the one who taught me how to ride a bike and took us to the beach and just generally made sure we had a fun summer. So when she passed away after a 10 year battle with ovarian cancer I felt like I needed to do something to honor a woman who had taught me so much.
When I run a marathon I always carry her obituary card with me, that way even though she is no longer here, I can still say she was with me. The Boston Marathon is the last marathon I intend to run (famous last words), and to be able to do it the year of her 5 year anniversary is something that will make it that much more meaningful.
That's where you all come in, I would like to ask for your support to help raise money for the Joe Andruzzi Foundation. Not only will it help to commemorate the life of a truly remarkable woman but it will help to provide financial assistance for patients and their families.
Any amount is appreciated, but for a $100 donation I will add the name of someone that is special to you to my race day shirt so they can also be celebrated.
