On September 11th 2001, our hero father, Firefighter Joseph Mascali ran. On his day off, he ran to the World Trade Center with his firefighter brothers. With his incredible strength, pure goodness and beautiful heart, he gave his own life while saving the lives of so many. There isn’t a day that passes that we do not think of his beautiful soul and no matter how many years may pass, the pain of not having him here with us lingers. But his spirit lives on in the 3 of us and we are so blessed to be his children. Lucky for us he left a piece of his strength in each of our hearts, helping us to go forward living our lives to make him proud.
Running is an important part of our lives. As siblings, it is something that bonds us together and one of the few things that has brought us peace during the most difficult times. It is our father's voice that echoes in our heads during those tough runs, telling us to keep going. The Tunnel to Towers Race is a day for all of us to go out, show our strength, and remember our hero and all of the precious heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice 14 years ago.
