Dear Friends and Family,
As many of you know, I volunteer with a great organization called iMentor. I'm in my seventh (?!) year as a volunteer and have had the good fortune to have three exceptional mentees, each of whom has been a great source of inspiration. I also co-chaired iMentor's Young Executive Board for a few years.
iMentor provides a truly unique forum for pairing NYC professionals with high school students from underserved communities. My current mentee, Juan, is a sophomore at Juan Morel Campos school in Brooklyn. Yes, this means that I leave the island from time to time and return to my ancestral homeland. We are on a multi-year journey that will take him all the way through high school and on to college. Our focus right now is to build on the foundations from freshman year and start thinking ahead to developing a college-ready set of skills and accomplishments.
If you're concerned about the educational opportunity and achievement gaps in America, I hope you will consider volunteering your time or making a small donation to iMentor--an innovative non-profit whose mission directly addresses this critical issue.
Thanks very much for your support!
