THE STORY:

Daraja Education Fund wrote -

"I want to be a doctor or an accountant."

The Kenyan government only provides free access to education through the primary grades (K-8). Beyond primary school, students or their families must pay all fees associated with their schooling. Countless bright, eager students are kept from furthering their education simply they cannot pay these fees.

Meet Guyatu

Hailing from the Ethiopia-bordering town of Sololo, Guyatu traveled for four days to her Daraja interview. After seeing many of her friends forced into early marriage, Guyatu is thankful and proud for the opportunity to be the first secondary school graduate in her family.

On campus, Guyatu loves to socialize with the girls in her class and the older students who share their wisdom and advice with her about getting the most out of Daraja. During breaks from school, Guyatu volunteers at the local hospital. Because she is considering medicine as a career, volunteering gives her great experience! Guyatu is also a top goal-scorer on the Daraja football (soccer) team.

Please consider supporting Guyatu as she runs to raise money for her own education on May 17th in Kenya, while many Daraja supporters are running in the annual San Francisco Bay to Breakers race in solidarity.

Separated by an ocean. United by a cause.
