Collin Rhys Chittick

A Tribute to our Son Collin Rhys Chittick April 17, 1986 -July 8, 2002 Words borrowed from Build Me A Son General Douglas A. MacArthur You built us a son, O Lord, who was strong enough to know when he was weak, and brave enough to face himself when he was afraid; one who was proud and unbending in honest defeat, and humble and gentle in victory. You built us a son whose wishes did not take the place of deeds; a son who knew Thee- and that to know himself was the foundation stone of knowledge. You lead him, we prayed, not in the path of ease and comfort, but under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenge. Here, you let him learn to stand up in the storm; here, you let him learn compassion for those who fall. You built us a son whose heart was clear, whose goals were high; a son who mastered himself before he seeked to master other men; one who learned to laugh, yet never forgot how to weep; one who reached into the future, yet never forgot the past. And after all these things were his, and, we prayed, you gave to him enough of a sense of humor, so that he may always be serious, yet never take himself too seriously. You gave him humility, so that he always remembered the simplicity of true greatness, the open mind of true wisdom, the meekness of true strength. And now we, his father and mother, dare to whisper, "We have not lived in vain". Collin taught us all that you can make a difference in someone’s life, not by the things you have but by what you give of yourself. Be it a smile, a kind word, an honest heart or a compliment, it is the simple act of caring and loving that we all need. Collin was a loving young man and proud of his relationship with God - for that he will always be remembered. We will miss Collin forever but he will always be a shining light in our hearts. 6 years ago
