BENEFITING: Hope Water Project
ORGANIZER: Hope Water Project
EVENT: Assenmacher 100
EVENT DATE: Aug 21, 2016
It seems like there are a million good projects in the world. This one sticks in my heart like a fish on a hook. Water is such a basic need, and we have the ability to provide that to many who currently do not have it. It is said that 1 out of 7 people do not have access to clean water, and that 6 out of 7 people can do something about it. Please help me and our group to do something about it for the Pokot people in Kenya.
When a village gets a well, it transforms life for everyone. People stop going slowly blind and getting sick from drinking elephant toilet water. Because the women of the village are available, kids get educated. They can even use drip irrigation to grow crops. Water is life, but it is also enhanced life.
Last year, my son Ryan and I rode across the state of Michigan in one day to raise funds for Hope Water Project. Hope Water Projects puts clean water wells in northwest Kenya where the Pokot tribe lives. They are the forgotten people of Kenya, marginalized and pushed to harsh and difficult land. Our efforts along with the rest of the team raised funds for 4 wells, providing life changing clean water for 8,000 people. The goal for this year for our team is to raise funds for 8 wells through our silly little biking group.
I am NOT a good rider. I am one of the slowest in the bunch. I despise climbing hills. I struggle to keep up with others over a distance. Why do I mention this? Because I believe so strongly in the power of clean water, that it is worth some discomfort on my part if that helps accomplish the goal.
I am hoping that if I am willing to do something challenging like this, you will join me and change the life of a Pokot man, woman or child. For $22, you can provide a lifetime of clean water for one person. Please consider how blessed you and your family have been. Please consider providing clean water to a similar sized family to yours. $44 would provide clean water for a couple. $88 would provide clean water for a family of four.
Thank you for joining me in this effort.
