Why I Ride
As many of you know last year I took on riding my first century to raise money to bring clean water to the Pokot Tribe in a remote area of northwestern Kenya.
Not only did I achieve that goal I far surpassed anything I ever thought I would be able to do. I found lifelong friendships and support that only belonging to a team can bring. With their encouragement and to many’ s amazement, I completed two centuries in a month, rode an international bridge and thousands of miles later I learned the most important lesson in a very long time "it is not about me at all!"
It was the over $2,000.00 dollars I raised last year that has given me a sense of gratitude in helping others. I learned about sacrifice and that serving others can make you very humble. This is the journey I am supposed to be on and I am planning on writing the next chapter with more success than last year.
This year's challenges for myself include completing a 5k in June (walk/run) and then on August 13th the ODRAM, One Day Ride Across Michigan, 147 miles on my bike. Followed by the Assenmacher 100 the next weekend. These back to back challenging rides are difficult for anyone but in comparison to what the women of the Pokot tribe do to just get a few gallons of dirty water in a day, this is a walk in the park.
So my friends I ask you to not only support me in my new challenges but please reach out and support the cause!!!
As always with gratitude.
