BENEFITING: PROJECT ALIVE & KICKING
EVENT DATE: Apr 02, 2016
Dear Friends & Family,
Allyson and I will be running our first Cooper River Bridge Run in Charleston, SC on April 2nd to raise money for Project Alive & Kicking (PAK) (www.projectaliveandkicking.org). PAK is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that one of our closest friends helped found which aims to empower expectant mothers by educating them about healthy pregnancies and pregnancy complications.
With a lot of incredible help and support, PAK raised more than $40,000 at last year’s race. Please support us this year and help us reach our personal fundraising goals to help make 2016 even better for this amazing organization.
PAK has accomplished so much this past year! To start, PAK was recognized by the Huffington Post, and chosen for its Next Ten campaign, as a charity that will take us into the future! One of its co-founders, Connie Hosker, was profiled and featured in the HuffPost on becoming an advocate for stillbirth prevention. The CDC also selected PAK as a resource for stillbirth.
On the ground, PAK vastly expanded its website, public relations efforts and social media presence (informative, newsworthy posts appear almost daily on Instagram, Twitter & Facebook) and created and launched its first educational video. Members of PAK also engaged with doctors, health care professionals and medical organizations across the country to further its educational mission, and PAK’s Medical Advisory Committee welcomed two new members, including a leading maternal fetal specialist.
PAK continues to support cutting-edge research, such as that of cord specialist Dr. Jason Collins and placenta specialist Dr. Harvey Kliman of Yale University. Cord and placenta issues are two major causes of pregnancy complications and stillbirth.
And for the coming year, PAK has a big agenda to continue and expand its media, public relations and medical community efforts. As always, PAK will keep abreast of cutting edge pregnancy research, and will seek to engage with doctors and health care providers who can further its mission of being an invaluable resource for expectant mothers.
PAK will also create its first mobile application, which will enable expectant mothers with kick counting, a pregnancy checklist and a number of other tools right on their phones. With PAK’s app, an expectant mother will be able enter a doctor’s office educated and empowered like never before!
If you happen to be in Charleston for the Bridge Run, PAK will be having a spectacular fundraising dinner following the run at one of Charleston’s premier waterfront venues, the Harborside East, which generously donated their space for the event. Big things ahead for PAK this year, and they couldn’t (and can’t) do it all without your support. So thank you!
With love and appreciation,
