Thanks for visiting my page to learn about this important initiative! As many of you know, I have been actively involved in the iMentor program since Fall of 2010 and it has been an amazing experience for me! In addition to being a mentor, I joined the Young Executive Board (YEB) in 2012, and recently in January I was nominated and accepted as co-chair of the YEB.
This is my second year participating on the Online Donor Drive in support of iMentor. Last year with the assistance of many of those viewing this page, I was able to blow away my goals and raise over $1,700 for iMentor! My goal this year is to attempt to exceed last year's number, so please read below and donate if at all possible!
I am now on my 2nd mentee with the iMentor program. My "new" mentee's name is Mark (pictured with me to the left), and he is a Junior at KIPP College Prep in Harlem, NYC. I am in the first year of a 3 year match with Mark with the goal of helping him navigate the rest of high school and his first year in college. Even though I have only known Mark for a few months, we have already formed a tremendous bond together primarily due to the fact we have so much in common. We both grew up in single parent homes, love making other people laugh, and share a deep passion for the game of basketball! Mark has tremendous energy and enthusiasm and has big goals of becoming a future engineer or businessman.
Although our bond is strong, the road ahead will not be easy. Trying to juggle school, athletics, and college admissions presents many hurdles specifically for inner city students like Mark. In my 2.5 years with iMentor one thing that I truly believe is that perseverence is the key and sometimes students just need to know someone who cares and can lend a helping hand. I've seen the power of this program already, and I'm looking forward to helping Mark navigate and overcome any hurdles over the next few years!
Money is tight for everyone these days, but please know that your contributions (no matter how small) will go directly towards helping students like Mark find mentors to help them achieve their goals and realize their potential. My $2,000 target goal if reached will be able to support two mentor-mentee pairs for a full year! All donations make a difference!
If you made it this far down the page (thanks!) but are not able to donate monetarily at this time, I ask that you do me a huge favor and spread the word to your networks! Twitter, FB, Pinterest, Instagram etc.. are all welcome
