THE STORY:

As many of you may know, I am a very proud mentor of Lexus, a NYC high school senior at Urban Assembly School for the Performing Arts. Lexus and I were matched in 2010, and we're currently working through the struggles and joys of the NYS Regents and college applications. iMentor connects working professionals in one-on-one mentoring relationships with NYC students to increase success throughout high school and college.

It's been a phenomenal match, it's incredibly rewarding, and I would be grateful for your support of a program that has a really profound impact on the lives of mentees - and mentors.

The 2012 Online Donor Drive is about Lexus, and the thousands of students like her, who have the potential to do great things. It costs $1,000 a year to support a mentor/mentee pair. So whether you help with $10 or $1,000, your involvement makes you part of a network of individuals making a lasting investment in the life of a high school student.

ABOUT IMENTOR
iMentor provides youth in underserved communities with college-educated mentors who help students develop the leadership, academic, and social skills needed to graduate high school college ready and succeed in college.

Mentors send one weekly email on a topic that iMentor provides and meet their mentees once a month at a group event that iMentor organizes. This year, 2,400 New York City high school students will work one-on-one with their mentors to build a bright future.

In January of 2012, Mayor Bloomberg recognized iMentor in his State of the City address, as iMentor partnered with 10 companies in NYC that pledged to recruit 100 employees to join as mentors (Accenture, Barclays, Bloomberg LP, Citi, Deutsche Bank, Ernst & Young LLC, Goldman Sachs, Marsh & McLennan, Morgan Stanley, and UBS).

Last year, you helped me raise enough money to support 8 (!) mentor-mentee pairs. Your support was incredible and truly impactful, and we all thank you for helping to sustain and grow iMentor's programs! I would be grateful for your support again this year. Whether you can help with $5 or $100 or $1,000 or simply by spreading the word about iMentor and this campaign, your involvement makes you part of a network of individuals making a lasting investment in the life of a high school student - and in your community's future.

iMentor is an organization I believe in. I've been involved with iMentor since 2010, and I had the honor of watching my mentee Lexus successfully pass the Regents, graduate high school and travel to upstate New York to start her new life as a college student. Proud doesn't even begin to encapsulate how I felt about watching Lexus blossom, succeed and thrive. She found her footing and became an independent thinker who met and exceeded her goals. This year, I was matched with Abigail who made a goal in September to bring her grades up - and as the semester closed, she told me she had exceeded that goal! It is a privilege to support these young women as they navigate school and realize the power of their intelligence and of their ability to accomplish what they set their mind to. The road to success is often pitted and bumpy, but iMentor helps NYC high school students create the skillsets for success by creating sustaining relationships between working professionals and high-school students through one-on-one matches that help increase success throughout high school and college.

Since 1999, iMentor has connected 11,000 students in New York City with mentors, and will match more than 2,400 mentor-mentee pairs this year. iMentor also provides its curriculum, technology, and best practices to nonprofits nationwide to help them run effective mentoring programs in the iMentor model.
