Four years ago, I found a cat sleeping on my doorstep. He was flea-ridden and his white and orange fur was colored gray from the asphalt where he had been sleeping. My boyfriend and I started leaving food out for him and named him "Gorgeous George," after the famous wrestler, since his scarred face and torn up ears suggested he'd been in a few fights. Eventually we decided it was time to clean George up and take him in as a permanent resident. We discovered he was 10 years old and likely abandoned by previous owners.
In August this year, George passed away suddenly. We were heartbroken. During the time we had with George, we watched him transform from a skittish and mangy street cat to an affectionate and loving lap cat. He gave our lives so much meaning and we hope we did the same for him.
We knew immediately we wanted to help other animals like Gorgeous George - provide them with love and shelter, and help them find their forever homes.
We discovered Kitten Rescue, an all-volunteer, non-profit organization founded in 1997, that is one of the most respected animal welfare groups in Los Angeles. Now we count ourselves amongst the dedicated volunteers who devote their busy schedules to helping homeless animals. We've taken in a foster cat with special needs, but there are many more cats AND dogs just like her that need our help.
Kitten Rescue relies on donations from the public to take animals out of high-kill shelters, pay for veterinary care, nurse sick dogs and cats to health, trap feral cats for spay/neuter, rehabilitate animals with behavioral issues, and otherwise save lives.
The more money we raise the more lives we can save, so please sponsor me as I tackle my first race alongside Team Kitten Rescue! Since we are a 501c3, donations made to Kitten Rescue are tax deductible.
