BENEFITING: Kitten Rescue
ORGANIZER: Kitten Rescue
EVENT: ASICS LA Marathon 2013
EVENT DATE: Mar 17, 2013
Congratulations, you have been selected as a potential donator.
This means I have assumed you either:
A. Have >$5 in your bank account
B. Have <$5 in your bank account but really really love cats (exe: Sarah Allee-Walsh; Chloe Roessell)
I have decided (mostly because I hate myself) that after 5 half marathons, I am going to try to run a full one. On March 17th, 2013 I will (allegedly) run/ hobble/crawl 26.2 miles from Dodger Stadium to Venice Beach. While some may question my willpower to complete the torturous training and to show up on race day when there is no beer garden promised (an outrage), none can question my love of cats. Therefore, I am running for a kittencause, and if I do not finish the race the donations will be returned.

There are tons of high-kill shelters in Los Angeles and very few no-kill resources for strays. I recently had to hand over a tiny, baby kitten named Gloopie to a high-kill shelter because I couldn't find anywhere else to take her; it nearly killed me. I have gotten Penguin, Mikey, Lisa, and Wildflower from high-kill shelters and our current dog Eli was literally adopted off the cutting board on his way to doggie heaven. Kitten Rescue adopts these little guys, puts them in huge cages, treats them if they're sick, and gives them all the time in the world to be found and loved. Your money=more cages & medicine=hundreds more animals saved every year.
Just think- if you had gloop in your eyes and were naked in a small cage, do you think you could get yourself adopted in under a week? I doubt it, I really doubt it.
Now give me $10, and I will send you post race photos- One of me green and puking, and one of me being carried to the nearest bar. Even if you hate kittens, that should be incentive enough.
What is Kitten Rescue? Kitten Rescue is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that was founded in 1997, and that has now grown into one of the most respected animal welfare groups in Los Angeles. Each year, our volunteers place over 1,000 cats and dogs into new homes. Since our inception, we have placed over 12,000 animals into loving homes! [To see where the cats we save come from, please click here.]
Who are our volunteers? Kitten Rescue is comprised of dedicated volunteers who devote much of their time to helping homeless animals, while juggling their own families, jobs, and lives as best as they can! At any given time you may find them bottle feeding orphaned kittens, nursing sick dogs and cats to health, visiting high-kill shelter to save whoever possible, running back and forth to veterinary clinics, trapping feral cats for spay/neuter, feeding feral cats, taming feral kittens, rehabilitating animals with behavioral issues, taking foster animals to adoption events, or delivering animals to their forever homes.
Why sponsor Team Kitten Rescue? Because you will be helping save the lives of cats and dogs who would otherwise not have a chance. Kitten Rescue relies on donations from the public to save the animals and pay for their veterinary care. The more money we raise, the more lives we can save! So please sponsor Team Kitten Rescue today. If you know one of our team members, you can donate directly on his/her individual crowdrise page, and the amount will reflect on this page as well. Since we are a 501c3, donations made to Kitten Rescue are tax-deductible.
Why join Team Kitten Rescue? Because the animals need you! If you walk or run the marathon for Team Kitten Rescue, you will be able to raise money to save the lives of homeless cats and dogs. And if this will be your first marathon, we assure you that it will be an incredibly rewarding and transformational experience. So it's a win-win for you and the animals. And no experience is necessary! So whether you are a seasoned marathoner or a couch potato who has never exercised, we would love to have you on our team. And for added fun, we'll have PRIZES for all team members!
As a Team Kitten Rescue participant, you will receive incentives for raising funds.
When you raise:
- $1000.00 you will be reimbursed for your marathon registration fee ($145.00 for full marathon, $125.00 for relay per person/$250.00 per team)
