I’m running the L.A. Marathon on March 18th, and in the process I’m raising money on behalf of Team Kitten Rescue. For all you dog lovers out there, despite the name, Team Kitten Rescue rescues homeless cats AND dogs in Los Angeles, and finds them safe, loving homes. Here’s why I’m raising money for Team Kitten Rescue: Twinkle and Timothy
In 98-99, I took a job in NYC with a big textbook publisher. While there, I decided I wanted to adopt a cat. Well, one Sunday afternoon, around 4pm, I thought about going to the 96thStreet Animal Shelter that my boss had told me about, but I thought “it’s too late, they close at 6.” Then, I thought, “no, go ahead and go. You might just end up with two cats.” So I went.
As I walked into the shelter, there was a young lady standing at the counter with a box on the counter, and she was crying hysterically. The man at the shelter was telling her, that if they took in her cats, they would be put to sleep. You see this was a “kill shelter” where they only kept the cats for two weeks and then killed them if not adopted. The clincher here was, that it was a few weeks before Halloween. And the shelter had a policy of not adopting out black cats during the month of October. Because “sick people do sick things to black cats around Halloween.” So, if the shelter took in her cats, they would not be adopted within the two-week window, and were guaranteed to be put to sleep (I guess one of those “sick things” sick people do). Right at that moment, Timothy who was protecting his little baby sister (or perhaps just sitting on her head), popped his head up out of the box, and looked right at me
So, I said, “I’ll take them.” And that was how I got my two kitties. If not for the whisper in my ear that afternoon, these two adorable little loves of my life would have died 13 years ago. Now, they’re nice and healthy (albeit slightly rotund—ok, FAT), and happy.
Please donate any amount, no matter how small, to help out other kitties and puppies like mine. And, if you are going to get a puppy or kitty, please ADOPT.

and I would love it if anyone wants to come out and cheer me on. Here’s the complete spectator’s guide with the map, and ways to get there and cheer me on:
Assuming I stay with my running group the whole way, I should reach the finish line in Santa Monica at around 2pm.
Thank you so much for all of your support. I hope to see some of you on race day! J
