I've been a volunteer with Kitten Rescue for the past 13 years, fostering and adopting out both cats and dogs. As volunteers, we make a lot of personal and financial sacrifices to rescue, rehabilitate, and adopt out abused and abandoned cats and dogs, now we are adding physical sacrifice as well.
Minoo is my inspiration for joining the team. She ran the marathon all by herself last year and raised over $5000 for KR. When she put out the call for team members to join her this year, who was I to say no? I am not particularly athletic, so the training program and marathon itself will be a significant personal accomplishment for me. I am also running for my daughter, Hannah, who really wanted to join the team, but is still too young by marathon standards. Nevertheless, Hannah will be at the KR booth on marathon day showing her support for our team.
Training update - My best distance so far is 20 miles! My foot started out hurting, but I thought I'd stick it out for the first 3 miles before stopping. after 5 - 10 minutes the pain suddenly vanished and I finished the run with no problems other than typical long run soreness. Hard to believe I can now say "only 12 miles" when 1.5 years ago I couldn't even run around the block without getting tired.
I made it! 6 hrs, 21 minutes, 45 seconds, faster than my anticipated 6 hrs 30 minutes!
On the left are pictures of Hannah and I in Venice, Italy; our current foster cat, Missy; a former foster dog, Angel; a former foster kitten, Betty; and Hannah petting a stray cat in Istanbul, Turkey. Please show your support for both myself and Hannah by donating to Kitten Rescue. No amount is too small.
