BENEFITING: AINSLEYSANGELS OF AMERICA
EVENT DATE: Oct 30, 2016
We (Kristin & Lauren) are the most unlikely of friends, brought together through the inspirational power of Ainsley's Angels of America. Together, Team Lauren advocates for the inclusion of the special needs community in all aspects of life, including endurance events like the marathon. The 2016 Marine Corps Marathon will be the first time we tackle 26.2 miles - together - for a cause near & dear to our hearts.
We first met in September 2015 when we were paired together as runner & rider at a local Ainsley's Angels race. Had it not been for this wonderful organization, our paths would've never crossed. Since that chance meeting that produced an instantaneous friendship, Lauren has received her own specially made running "chariot" so she can participate in races of every distance.
Lauren, a HS junior, was diagnosed with spinal cancer as an infant, leaving her paraplegic. She has undergone numerous surgeries & countless hours of physical therapy over the years but has never once let this consume her. Lauren is a bright, witty, resilient young woman with an indomitable spirit. Lauren & her fellow angel riders are truly what the marathon is all about - a testament of will, heart, and strength.
On October 30th, Kristin will push Lauren 26.2 miles in her chariot. Not only will we experience the thrill & excitement of the finish line of one of the toughest endurance events together, but we will be spreading the message of inclusion and proving that there are many non-traditional ways of doing the traditional.
We hope that you will join us on this journey & help us raise awareness in communities across the country. Donations made to our fundraiser will not only benefit Ainsley's Angels, but will also allow for the purchase of a new running chariot so others can experience the thrill of rolling with the wind.
When we work together we have the power to erase preconceived notions of disability. For Team Lauren, there's no such thing as a disability.
