BENEFITING: The S.L.E. Lupus Foundation
ORGANIZER: The S.L.E. Lupus Foundation
EVENT DATE: Nov 03, 2013
On November 3rd I will be running the New York City Marathon. Though I will be chasing down a personal best and competing in the elite field, I will also be running for a cause that I care deeply about.
The S.L.E. Lupus Foundation helps individuals with lupus and their families cope with the difficulties and complexities of this terrible disease. The Foundation promotes early diagnosis and effective treatment of lupus through public awareness campaigns, professional education and patient services. They also fund innovative lupus research to identify new treatments, causes and a cure for this devastating illness.
Lupus is a chronic, autoimmune disorder that affects 1.5 million Americans, primarily women between 18 and 44. The body’s immune system can attack healthy organs or tissues, such as kidneys, lungs, heart, brain, skin, joints and blood. Lupus is a leading cause of cardiovascular disease, kidney disease and stroke among young women.
Anyone who has watched a loved one suffer through a traumatic illness understands the far-reaching effects one brave person's struggle can have on families and friends. On November 3rd help me honor all of the admirable individuals who have and continue to show strength through difficult times and inspire us day-to-day. And while any help you can give will go a long way, you can also contribute to the casue by coming out on November 3rd and supporting all of the runners who will be fighting for the causes we believe in and the people that we love.
