BENEFITING: The S.L.E. Lupus Foundation
ORGANIZER: The S.L.E. Lupus Foundation
EVENT DATE: Nov 03, 2013
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I am excited to be running the 2013 ING NYC Marathon with Team Life Without Lupus, supporting the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation.
One of my good friends - a vibrant, intelligent, and all around amazingly fun young woman, Sarah Daley, passed away February 19, 2012 after a three month battle with Lupus at age 26. Until Sarah was diagnosed, I did not know much about Lupus, and certainly did not fully understand what a horrible, life-threatening disease it is.
I started running shortly after Sarah's passing to help deal with some of the pain. Before March 2012 I had never run more than 3 miles at once in my life. I even distinctly remember at some point saying "I know I will never run a marathon in my lifetime", but I continued to gain strength and confidence as I thought about Sarah and all of the things she could have accomplished in life if she was given the chance. It was this continuous thought, as well as her memory, that lead to my decision to try to accomplish select goals in life that I previously never thought I could do: the first being to finish a marathon.
While I have finished two marathons over the past six months, I am the most honored to run the 2013 ING NYC Marathon in Sarah's memory and reach my goal of raising $5,000 for the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation. The S.L.E. Lupus Foundation leads the nation in providing direct patient services, education, public awareness, and funding for novel lupus research on the national level.
Thank you very much for your donation - your generous contribution enables the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation to provide services for people with lupus and their families as well as increase awareness of lupus, provide lupus education, and fund research leading to new lupus treatments and a cure.
