BENEFITING: THE LINK TO CHILDREN

EVENT: Bank of America Chicago Marathon 2013

EVENT DATE: Oct 13, 2013

THE STORY:

Sima Hsu, Andrew Gale and Melissa Racouillat have created this site specially for THE LINK TO CHILDREN.  We love to run, but more importantly we run for an amazing cause that is close to our heart but also close to where we live. People travel to far away places like Nepal, Cambodia, India or other places in the world to volunteer, build schools, housing etc. But what about the children that are just around the block from us? We run this marathon in support of a great cause that is based in Oakland. Ten minutes away from San Francisco, but so different in many many ways..

Our Mission: The Link to Children supports the healthy emotional development of children 0-5 years so they will be able to learn to their full potential by providing early intervention mental health services.

Our Goals:

• Provide crisis intervention when children are victims of crime or abuse.

• Use play therapy to reduce fears and aggression and enhance social skills.

• Improve communication and problem solving skills for parents and caregivers.

• Teach and model strategies to effectively respond to problems in early childhood.

We partner with county agencies and school districts to provide critical services for all children five and under in Alameda County.

TLC intern therapists provide over 3,000 hours of mental health prevention and intervention to approximately 600 children, their families and their teachers. Evidence shows that early intervention can change the course of a child’s life. We hope you can support us through a donation to help us in changing lives!

Below you will find various links to news coverage TLC has recently received honoring us for the work we do in the community.

KQED Local Hero Interview:

KQED proudly celebrated individuals whose work has helped to create a better Bay Area for all. Nominated by the community, these local heroes’ accomplishments were the centerpiece of KQED’s annual Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Celebration.  We invite you to view the awards ceremony where our Executive Director, HC Lee, was honored as a local hero.

Oakland Tribune/Comcast

The TLC Executive Director was interviewed by The Bay Area News Group and Comcast in honor of their Hometown Heroes series.
